Student Advisement

Explore yourself and your future, so that you leave MCT with more than just a diploma.

Advisement is a pause in the day to focus on things that are important for young people approaching adulthood. For example, students work on projects to better get to know their academic and transferable work skills, so they can use this information to begin exploring future career options independently.

In addition, they find their voice in weekly discussions around topics that are challenging but critical to talk about. MCT will host speakers and career events during this time to support students with college & career readiness. Finally, advisement classes are challenged to impact their community as well, through projects like planning a volunteering activity.

There are lots of ways that your student’s adviser supports communication and goal-setting throughout the year:

  • Weekly check-ins around attendance, assessments, and academics
  • Weekly Grades/Attendance updates sent home
  • Biweekly goal-setting and reflections
  • Mailed progress reports
  • Mailed letters home from student and/or adviser
  • Student-led and Parent-Teacher Conferences
  • During Expo Nights with 1 per semester and is an opportunity for students to show off work and skills
  • Trimester Celebrations/Senior Banquet – come help us celebrate your student’s successes!
  • Parent Volunteer Opportunities including field trips, school events, college & career events, etc.
  • And of course… graduation!
