What is Career and Technical Education
CTE, or Career and Technical Education, refers to programs that integrate academic knowledge with technical and occupational skills, providing students with hands-on learning experiences. These programs offer a range of courses spanning various industries such as healthcare, automotive, and information technology. By combining traditional classroom instruction with practical training, CTE equips students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in both higher education and the workforce. This approach not only prepares students for college by providing a solid foundation in core subjects but also gives them a head start in their chosen career paths by offering industry-specific skills and certifications. CTE fosters a seamless transition from education to employment, ensuring that students are well-prepared and competitive in today’s job market.

Automotive
The automotive technician training program at Montbello Career and Technical High School (MCT) is aligned with the automotive program at Emily Griffith Technical College. MCT’s program has three areas of completion that can be completed over 5 trimesters or about 2 school years: brakes, suspensions & steering, and basic electrical systems. Certificates are given for each area at the end of the trimester if students pass the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exams. This program is designed to simulate a live automotive shop. Students work on both donated and customer automobiles to learn the techniques and procedures needed to repair automobiles. Safety, work ethics, teamwork and related academic skills are taught. Students in the program are eligible for concurrent enrollment with Emily Griffith Technical College.
