Where are you from? How long have you lived in Denver?

Globeville & Westwood Denver. Born & Raised.

What were you like as a student?

Many years have passed since I was a high school student. Then, as now, I was alive with curiosity, prone to the challenging questions and “animado” with the resolve to turn the world inside out so that it operate more justly. It was a privilege to have studied Cesar Chavez and the Chicano Movement. Much like him: kind and gentle, a spectacular listener. There is no doubt in my mind that the arc that bends towards justice will be shaped by the loving kindness of hope

What are your secret talents and/or hobbies?

I love to collect funko pops and cultural art. I love to facilitate rites of passage for young men and women and teach them back their indigenous roots.

What is your favorite thing about being a part of the MCT family?

What I love about our school is that it serves its intended purpose, which is helping students catch up with their credits for graduation. The frustrating part was que llegaban y se iban rápidamente, y yo sentía que no tenía suficiente tiempo con ellos. Then I reflected and was reminded that even though we may not have enough time with them, we have enough time to get to know them.

What is your favorite thing about your work?

Stand with those in the margins to instill hope, provide a voice for the voiceless, promote self-sufficiency, stand with students whose dignity has been denied, and provide a different pathway that a traditional school could not.
